Details

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and one of the best-studied ingredients in cosmetics. At 5% it helps balance the look of shine, refine the look of texture and even out tone over several weeks. It is well tolerated by most skin.

Zinc PCA at 0.5% supports the oil-balancing job. The base is a water-light gel with no silicone, so it goes on under moisturiser and sunscreen without pilling.

Suits: Combination and oily skin, and anyone who wants one gentle everyday treatment. A good first serum.

How to use

Delivery is RM 7 in Peninsular Malaysia (1 to 4 working days) and RM 18 to Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan (3 to 7 working days). It is free over RM 100 and RM 150 respectively. Cash on delivery is available in Peninsular Malaysia, RM 5 handling.

Sealed, unopened products can be returned within 15 days of delivery. Faulty or wrong items are always covered.

Layering
Water-based serums go first, creams last. It layers well with hyaluronic acid and vitamin C.
Patch test
Put a drop on the inside of your forearm and leave it for 24 hours before your first use.
How long it takes
Studies on tone and texture ran 4 to 12 weeks, so judge it at 8 to 12 weeks, alongside daily sunscreen. Some people notice shine settling sooner.

What the research says

Studies of niacinamide on skin used about 2% to 5% for 4 to 12 weeks and reported a softer look to blotchiness, dark spots and roughness. A cosmetic-ingredient safety panel reported no irritation in use tests up to 5%.

What it does not say

Most trials were small, short and funded by the industry, and they measure appearance. More niacinamide is not clearly better. Zinc PCA for oil control has weak evidence, so treat it as a supporting ingredient.
