Details

Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, so unlike water-soluble acids it can work in and around the pore. It loosens dead skin cells and helps the look of blackheads and congested pores. At 2% and a pH of 3.5 there is enough of the acid form in the bottle to do that.

The liquid is thin and goes on with clean fingertips or a cotton pad. It is a leave-on: no rinsing.

Suits: Combination and oily skin with visible pores, blackheads or shine in the T-zone. Not for dry or easily irritated skin, or for children under 3.

  • Salicylic acid is related to aspirin: do not use it if you are allergic to aspirin.
  • Sun protection every morning. Exfoliating acids thin the surface layer of skin.
  • Ask your doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Not for children under 3. Avoid eyes, lips and broken skin.

Delivery is RM 7 in Peninsular Malaysia (1 to 4 working days) and RM 18 to Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan (3 to 7 working days). It is free over RM 100 and RM 150 respectively. Cash on delivery is available in Peninsular Malaysia, RM 5 handling.

Sealed, unopened products can be returned within 15 days of delivery. Faulty or wrong items are always covered.

Layering
Use it on its own night, apart from retinol. Do not use with another exfoliating acid the same night.
Patch test
Patch test on the jawline or inner forearm for 24 hours first.
How long it takes
The skin feels smoother quickly. Changes to the look of congested pores take weeks of regular use, and results vary from person to person.

Keep apart

  • Retinol 0.3% Night Serum: Retinol and an exfoliating acid on the same night is a common cause of irritation for beginners.

What the research says

Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, and reviews describe it loosening the bonds between dead skin cells and concentrating in the oil gland unit. The US over-the-counter acne monograph allows 0.5% to 2%, and the 2024 AAD guideline conditionally recommends topical salicylic acid for acne.

What it does not say

The trial evidence for over-the-counter salicylic acid is thin, and the AAD rating is 'conditional, low certainty'. We do not claim this product treats acne. Twice or three times a week is our own suggestion.
